Toronto VMUG User Conference – Recap – Thank YOU!

Toronto VMUG User Conference – Recap – Thank YOU!

A big Thank You to everyone that attended the Toronto VMUG User Conference! We had a fantastic time connecting, sharing and engaging with everyone in the community. This year we hit record numbers and the early feedback was that we hit on all the right topic areas. The team really works hard to deliver relevant and interesting topics for your education and development.

This year twitter was also a buzz with folks using the #tovmug hashtag and sharing their thoughts online – it was great to see.

Exciting Start to the Day

It turns out we were standing room only for the start of the event – that was exciting to see and Michael Roy (blog/twitter) kicked off with a keynote about VMware Hybrid Cloud. This is something we would like to see more of in Canada, I guess its up to us to evangelize the message, and we sure can do it! As a side Michael has also recently published a book – Instant Getting Started with VMware Fusion from Packt Publishing, Congrats!

VMware and Vendor Session

We had a great line up this year of sessions from VMware and our sponsors, the following VMware sessions has a great turn out – VSAN, VMware NSX and Global Support Services insights into improving your vSphere environment.

I would also like to thank VMware and our vendors for sponsoring and supporting the local community in Toronto. Its with your involvment that we can put on conferences like these.

Special Guest Keynote – Chris Wahl

We were very honored to have Chris Wahl (blog/twitter) participate in this years user conference. When you have a chance to bring someone like Chris to your conference – you just make it happen. His keynote – Stop Being a Minesweeper was great and just reaffirmed that automation and orchestration is they key for future System administrators.

It was also great to see the folks come up to Chris after his presentation and want more information. Thanks Chris for making the trip to Toronto and we hope to see both you and Jen up here soon!

Ask the Experts and Home Lab Giveaway

The day came to a close with a Ask the Experts panel that included Chris Wahl (blog/twitter), Mike Preston (blog/twitter), Eric Wright (blog/twitter) and Michael Roy (blog/twitter). Your truly was moderating – it was good to see the large crowd that stayed to the end and engaged in asking the panel questions. I encourage you to follow these folks on twitter and add their blogs to your daily readying list.

Giving away the home lab was a great experience and it went to someone that is going to use it to get their VMware certifications.

Teams Get Things Done

I want to single out my team members for their hard work and support on putting this event together, their time, dedication and community focus really made this happen – Thanks Mike Preston (blog/twitter), Eric Wright (blog/twitter) and Ryan Goff (twitter).
